USA : Kmart 'Mix it Up' campaign for style guru

February 13, 2008

Kmart announced a nationwide search for the country's next style guru to serve as a fashion ambassador for the brand.

The lucky (and stylish) customer will receive a once-in-a-lifetime chance to appear in Kmart's national advertising campaigns as well as spend a day working with the brand's private label designers in their Soho-based design center.

The grand prize winner will also receive $10,000 in Kmart gift cards and a trip for two to New York City complete with theater tickets.

The celebrity judging panel will feature high profile stylists and influencers in the fashion industry such as actress, model, and designer Jaclyn Smith, style extraordinaire Jorge Ramon, Sears Holdings executive apparel designer Lisa Schultz, fashion expert Jennie Corallo of Glamour Magazine, fashion editor Victoria Sanchez of Latina Magazine, and Barbara Bundy, Vice President of FIDM.

Customers wishing to show off their signature looks will be judged by the celebrity panel on both style and substance. Anyone 18 years or older can illustrate their fashion sense by uploading a photo of themselves in their uniquely created ensemble at kmart.com/style.

Each uploaded image will require a brief style statement of 50 words or less, explaining the inspiration for their design. The contestant's creativity will be categorized and judged within four style segments: casual, classic, trendy or sporty.

The competition is slated to begin on March 9 and finalists will be chosen on May 6 in Los Angeles by the celebrity judging panel. Following the announcement of the grand prize winner on May 13, awards will be given to 85 additional contestants.
