The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair, to be held from February 25-28 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), is again the focus of industry players looking for the latest upbeat fur creations.
Organized by the Hong Kong Fur Federation, this annual event will showcase a kaleidoscope of fur apparel, accessories and lifestyle furnishings from 245 local and overseas exhibitors to hail from 18 countries and regions.
Modish design and new technology employed in fur products have prompted the popularity of fur to go in step with prevailing fashion. The last 10 years has seen the sale of furs explode around the world with more people buying, wearing and otherwise using fur than ever before.
Indeed, fur has become a favourite amongst global fashion goers. “Acclaimed international fashion designers continue to embrace fur as it increases both their prestige and profitability.
With a substantial fur content jazzing up fashion catwalks in Paris, Milan and New York, their endorsement will ensure high visibility for furs throughout the year,” said Mr. Timothy Everest, spokesman of the Hong Kong Fur Federation.
Hong Kong is the fur manufacturing powerhouse of the world where buyers can rely on to purchase responsible, fashionable furs at fair prices. In the last seven years, Hong Kong’s total exports of fur clothing has kept growing, recording an accumulative increase of 38% from 2001-2007.
Affected by thewarm winter in 2006, Hong Kong fur exports slowed down in 2007 with value worth at HK$2.5 billion, while Finland, Kazakhstan, and Poland recorded impressive growth.
Mr. Everest noted that the outlook of Hong Kong fur exports in 2008 will inevitably be affected by the sub-prime chaos in developed economies in Europe and America, however there are encouraging demands from China and Russia attributed to their cold winter and affluent economy.
