Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2012 Review

When it comes to Tommy Hilfiger, preppy Americana is what you’re going to get—but that doesn’t mean it’s the same thing season after season. For Spring, it was all about “Pop Prep,” with the Hilfiger team putting a ‘60s pop art spin on all things preppy.

It started with mod little glen plaids, which came in swing coats, tee dresses, and even bikini bottoms that were worn with chunky cable-knit sweaters in bright stripes. Classic shirting made some innovative appearances, whether it was a little moto jacket in poplin or shirttail hems on everything from dress to a skirt. And then there was the leather. One all red ensemble was particularly fab, but shoppers are sure to covet the poppy-colored—think mustard and lavender—leather skirts come spring.

The pop art theme continued with colorful camouflage prints in easy silk dresses, but the best and brightest (literally and figuratively) came in bold colorblock pieces—from sporty swimsuits to the easy caftans that closed the show. Yes, Tommy Hilfiger lives in a prep world—but with a fresh take like this, even the art kids can get in on it.
